Commonly referred to as one of the ten best beaches in the world, Trunk Bay invites its visitors to stroll on some of the finest white grain sand around. Couple that with amazing snorkeling adventures through the spectacular blue waters and magnificent coral reefs found here. Snorkelers will also not want to miss the opportunity to ogle marine life at Waterlemon Cay off the beach at Leinster Bay.
Those who prefer to stay on top of the water should head over to Cinnamon Bay. At the water sports center there, visitors can rent kayaks and sailboats. The winds at the bay make it an ideal location for those who want to try their hand at windsurfing.
Beyond the azure blue water and white sand lies a totally different landscape of the Virgin Islands National Park that is sure to entice both hikers and botany lovers. There are several hiking trails located throughout the park ranging in duration from 10 minutes at Peace Hill up to two hours at the Caneel Hill Trail. Depending on skill level, park guests can choose the hike that is best for them. Trails take hikers to beautiful overlooks and through forests and cactus groups. Hundreds of other plant species populate the landscape as well.
History enthusiasts are not left out when visiting Virgins Islands National Park. Archaeological sites dating back to prehistoric times, Caribbean rock art at Caneel Bay depicting religious and cultural customs, and ruins from sugar plantations and great houses provide visitors with numerous opportunities to familiarize themselves with the cultural development of the island. Hassell Island, most of which falls under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, is rich in historical sites including the Cirque Marine Railway and the Garrison House, which was used to house military equipment during the early 1800s.
