Massachusetts is overflowing with pre-Colonial, and has tons to offer the nature lover as well as history buffs.

1. Myles Standish State Forest

Featuring a total of 11 miles of looped trail, accessible to all skill levels, Standish is also great for mountain biking. There are paved bike paths winding through the woods as well as plenty of flat terrain areas.

2. Ellisville Harbor State Park

An easy 3 miler, this trail is primarily for hikers but welcoming to leashed dogs as well.  The trail is accessible year round.

3. Massasoit State Park

Located in neighboring East Taunton, this park features 15 miles of multiple-route trails that appeal especially to mountain bikers. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate.

4. Halfway Pond Conservation Area

A vast expanse of land known as “The eyes of Plymouth County,” Halfway Pond is home to the endangered Northern Redbelly Cooter and a great spot to spy bald eagles.  There are several walking trails scattered throughout this 409 acre park.

5. Pilgrim Memorial State Park

This park may be small in size, but it’s large in history. Millions of visitors flock here each year to see Plymouth Rock and stroll the decks of a reproduction of the Mayflower.
