No doubt about it, ecotourism is growing throughout the world. More than just a vacation, ecotourism focuses on trips centered around nature and conservationism. Winter travel is no exception to this up-and-coming travel venture, and one of the prime ways to take it in is by visiting Wyoming for a Grand Teton National Park Wildlife Eco Tour!

This time of year, the park plays host to a number of special wintertime wildlife viewing opportunities. There are two daily tours — one at sunrise and one at sunset. These are optimal wildlife viewing hours during the colder months. Early risers can have the chance to see moose grazing or bighorn sheep scaling the snowy hillsides. These four hour wildlife tours are hosted by professional guides and include transportation in a four-wheel drive vehicle, a must for traversing the roads less traveled in the park, as well as binoculars and spotting scopes.

Tours also include venturing into Jackson Hole National Park. As part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, sightseers can expect to encounter such wildlife as elk, bald and golden eagles, bison, wolves, coyotes, mule deer, and more. Your guides will provide information about these species such as animal behavior and how they adapt in the winter, as well as winter ecology, geology of the area, and it’s cultural history.

Looking for something a little more rugged? Grand Teton National Park also hosts ranger-guided snowshoe tours. Running through mid-March, these two-hour hikes are an educational tour through the snow covered wilderness. Snowshoes are available to rent for a suggested donation of just $5 and reservations must be made in advance. Call the park at (307) 739-3399 to book your spot. Then bundle up for this brisk and adventurous outdoor experience!
