Amazing Stays for the Solo Lady

Amazing Stays for the Solo Lady

Many free-spirited folk feel the call to set out on their own private adventure. They dream of backpacking through Europe during their gap year or hiking through the Smokey Mountains to put that quarter-life (or mid-life) crisis to rest. But many women might be reluctant to even consider solo travel. No more! Ladies, the world can be yours. Here are some beautiful — and safety minded — sojourns for the solo lady.

Scotland

A lush, green landscape filled with lovely lochs and stately stone castles, Scotland bursts with a rich history and a proud people. It’s a fairly small country, making travel easy. Whether you like small villages or big cities, both are available to explore. If English is your primary language, you’ll have no problem communicating – once you learn to understand the accent. Put some Sheena Easton on your iTunes and walk in the footsteps of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots and other famous Scotswomen like Mary Young who was a vital operator in the Allied Resistance during WWII, and Elsie Inglis, one of the first female physicians in the country and a champion of the women’s suffrage movement.

Iceland

One of the most appealing draws for the solo lady is that Iceland has virtually no crime. You can feel safe and sound here at a hotel or hostel.  Iceland is a land of diverse landscapes to charm most any traveler. You can hike by glaciers, waterfalls, and even volcanoes. The cold climate can be a bit challenging so pack accordingly, and English is commonly spoken along with the native tongue. Gaze up on the Northern Lights as you ponder famous Icelandians like Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first female president not just of this country, but in the world.

Slovenia

A small nation bordered by Croatia, Hungary, Austria, and Italy, Slovenia is not a major tourist destination, which means no overcrowding. A relaxed feel adds to the safety factor. The fact that it is easily accessible by train or plane from other major European cities, make this a budget friendly destination as well. Take a stroll through one of Slovenia’s many art museums and look for the work of Ivana Kobilca, one of this nation’s first premiere female artists.

So strap on that backpack, ladies. Your solo adventure awaits.
