3 Easy Camping Sweet Treats

Nearly everyone who has been camping at one point or another has participated in the creation of one of camping’s most beloved food items: s’mores.

You can’t get much easier than toasting a marshmallow over glowing coals and adding chocolate and graham crackers for that quintessential charred, sticky goodness that only a campfire and a starry night sky can bring together. But as much as we adore our gooey, crunchy treat, there’s something to be said for trying something new, and so we bring you 3 of our favorite camping treats–second only, of course, to s’mores. Bon apetit!

Make sure you always have a heat-resistant pair of gloves, or an oven mitt for placing and removing items in the campfire. Children should always be supervised while any campfire activity is taking place.

1. Canned Peach Cobbler

This has got to be one of the most simple ways to get that warm pie joy without hours in the kitchen.

You’ll need:

  • 1 can of peaches in syrup
  • 1 cup of Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Drain the syrup of the peaches into a separate container, but leave the peaches in the can. Mix 1/4 cup of the syrup with the Bisquick to make a batter, and stir in the cinnamon. Pour the batter over the peaches, and cover the top with tinfoil. Place the can over the coals, checking after several minutes. The cobbler is finished when dumplings begin to form and rise.

2. Banana Boats

Bananas are a great sweet treat on their own, but why not add a little character to them for fun?

You’ll need:

  • Unpeeled bananas
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips, M&Ms, Rolo, or any other favorite chocolate candy

Without peeling the banana, cut it in half lengthwise. Push your chocolates and marshmallows into the flesh of the banana, and bring both halves back together. Wrap the banana in tinfoil, and place it in the coals. Remove it after 3-5 minutes, open it up, grab a spoon, and enjoy your hot banana sundae!

3. Roasted Cinnamon Rolls

The easiest of them all, and also a great breakfast or midday snack idea!

You’ll need:

  • 1 can of pre-fabricated cinnamon roll dough
  • Honey

Remove the cinnamon roll dough from the can. Since the can is not reusable, make sure you have a zip-lock baggie for storing leftover dough–if there is any, that is! Unroll the dough into a strip. Place one end of the dough around your roasting stick, and continue rolling until all dough is wrapped around itself. Pinch the end slightly to keep it in place. Now roast the cinnamon bun just as you would a marshmallow, turning it slowly and evenly so the entire roll cooks through. When it is finished, drizzle a little honey on your treat and eat it right off the stick!
